With so many juicers on the market, it is not surprising if you are confused not knowing which one to get but in this article we are going to help you find the best slow juicer available in 2017.

slow juicer is also the best juicer for leafy greens  (also known as a cold press juicer) and work as the name suggest; slower than your normal juicer. The slower speed is beneficial in a number of ways covered here.

Even the highest priced juicer on the list has qualities that would make it desirable as a blender or smoothie maker. With more features coming out, and with more of a demand to claim kitchen space, juicers are a fast moving phenomenon that will meet with smoothies and blenders faster than the other way around. The chances of that happening in the next couple of years is great, and it will be exciting to see what companies come up with for us to try.

When choosing a juicer RPM is really important to look at, as well as how it handles pulp. Many like to use the leftover pulp as storage and then put it in their smoothie for another day. There are also safety features to consider, as homes with children need to make sure that the juicer does not operate without certain mechanisms in place. BPA-free containers and products may also take preference over others, and there is a good chance that price will pay the biggest role. Juicers are far from cheap, with even the budget brand coming in at a considerable price.

But they are also the most well taken care of by the manufacturer, boasting warranties in excess of 10 years. Below is a great list of juicers to choose from, for a healthier, longer, and more active lifestyle.

Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

The Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer is a mid-priced masticating juicer with a strong motor powered by 110 volts. This is a low 80 RPM unit, which means better juice and no foaming, clogging or heat buildup. The unit does a great job of getting you as much juice as possible from the fruit, and includes an auto pulp-ejection feature that leaves the main juicing function uninterrupted. The process is dual-stage, very quiet and is UL and cUL approved. With the low speed of the unit juice can be stored up to 72 hours without degradation, and maintains healthy enzymes while preventing oxidation. By utilizing the full potential of this juicer, you can make baby food, all natural peanut butter, and even make your own soy milk. One of the more interesting accessories is the pasta nozzles, allowing for homemade spaghetti, linguini, or breadsticks.

The tube to insert food is a bit smaller than other devices, which means some manual work may be needed to get the food completely down. As far as durability, the entire unit is pretty well build but as with most units, there is going to be some wear on the outside and on some of the inside parts as well. This is still a excellent juicer and one of the better ones on the list, and a very powerful one to have when you need a quick pick me up. At the current price it won’t hurt the wallet, and with the warranty buyers will be well taken care of.

Hurom HU-100 Masticating Slow Juicer

As one of the prettier looking juicers on the list, this mid-priced Hurom HU-100 Masticating Slow Juicer has a cold pressing system that extracts 35% more juice than traditional juicers. Hurom’s patented Slow Squeezing Technology retains heat sensitive ingredients and makes sure that pulp is as dry as possible, while increasing juice yield. Several ingredients can be thrown in without a problem like fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, wheatgrass, nuts, and soy. With the combination of any of these, buyers can make their own juices, soymilk, or even peanut butter and baby food. The warranty on the motor lasts up to a decade, and the motor itself is durable while only using 150 watts of energy. When measuring the silence of this unit to others, it has a bit of an edge due to the way it was built. The auger is made of heavy-duty Ultem, and is reported to be 8 times stronger than traditional plastics.

This model is BPA free so that is a plus in the safety department, if that is a feature the buyer was looking for. This is a bigger unit, so no tucking it away in the corner of the kitchen and blending in. And even with the heavy duty auger, it is still plastic, and plastic breaks after prolonged use. The company is really good at replacing parts at no cost to the customer, so there will be some headache but nothing major. If juicing leafy greens is a big thing for you, there are some problems properly juicing them, even though it supports it. The quality could definitely have used some work in some areas of the construction, so there will be a learning process while going backwards and forwards through the documentation.

Super Angel All Stainless Steel Twin Gear Juicer- 5500

As the most expensive juicer on the list, the professional grade Super Angel All Stainless Steel Twin Gear Juicer- 5500 is bought by few but enjoyed by many. It is a twin gear two stage juicer with surgical stainless steel parts. The biggest complaint with most of the juicers on the list is how the plastic parts don’t do justice to the internals, or how parts break easily due to construction. Due to the heavy duty build of this product, it really is the best on the list when it comes to juicing and durability. The easy to clean design comes with a 10 year warranty on both motors and parts, and the screaming 3 HP motor is the strongest on the list, even if it runs a bit loud and at 86 RPM. It’s one of the few on the list that can correctly do tofu without overbearing the motor.

The price is incredibly high, double and even triple times the amount of the items on this list. This is indeed the best on the list but at such an inflated price that it won’t be available to all consumers. That said, it works so well that you will have to adjust your recipe for taste. It gets as much juice as possible out of all ingredients, so there will definitely be an adjustment period, even if you are coming from another high end juicer. The prep stick is made out of solid wood and is great to look at, but not as functional as some of the other sticks provided with other products. If looking for the best slow juicer on the list then this is it, but whether buyers can afford it will be the question.

Omega VRT350 Heavy Duty Dual-Stage Vertical Single Auger Low Speed Juicer

This is another mid-priced model from Omega, and this time the unit has an auto cleaning system and compact base. It is a lot smaller and easier to handle than other units, and won’t be such an eyesore in the kitchen. The Omega VRT350 is a low speed 80 RPM masticating juicer with a patented screw design auger. The process uses a squeeze method instead of grinding, maintaining the color, taste and vitamins of the juice. With the dual stage format pulp is simultaneously separated from the main juice, and then squeezed until dry, getting the most out of all the ingredients.

Three simple settings make the process easy, and they are on, off and reverse. The reverse option conveniently helps you recover any clogged items. The spout on this model is a bit more forgiving, and should accommodate most users.

Even with the 10 year warranty, users may be turned off by the excess pulp at the bottom of their glass. The unit is also very picky with certain ingredients, with certain fruits that are too ripe turning into paste rather than juicing correctly. Greens are the biggest enemy, creating more froth than any of the ingredients. Overall the unit is just reality picky with some of the ingredients, so it is trial and error. The chute is large but still prone to a lot of jamming, meaning that even with the larger chute ingredients need to be sliced, and in some cases diced so that the equipment will work correctly. Other parts of the machine that tend to clog up include the pulp ejection flap, and though not all the time, it is enough to frustrate buyers.

This is a good unit that has a bit of quirks to work out, with many of them being avoided by doing extra prep work. Whether users want to do that extra work after shelling out their money will be up to them.

Hurom Elite Slow Juicer Model HH-SBB11

This mid-priced Hurom promises 35% more juice than traditional juicers through the use of Hurom’s 2nd generation patented slow squeezing technology, and their new and improved twin-winged auger system. Besides the auger overhaul, the self-cleaning system has also been redone, and is a lot more efficient and easier than previous products. They even managed to redo the advanced safety lock system, making it a viable addition to family owned homes with children. The unit will refuse to run unless all pieces are locked in place, preventing any unnecessary accidents. The motor itself runs pretty silently and only uses 150 watts of energy when in use. The 10 year warranty covers the motor, while there is only 2 years for the parts to be covered. An included recipe book does a good job of showing what the unit is capable of, and the delicious things that can be made with it.

The unit is dishwasher safe, but all 5 parts will pretty much fill up most of the space in a dishwasher. This wouldn’t be a big problem if the overhauled self-cleaning system did a great job, but unfortunately it does a decent job. Washing the unit by hand can be time consuming, so it is either by hand or half a load in the dishwasher. Even at the finest setting there may be some grit that makes it through the final product. For what it’s worth the material is a lot better than some of the other juicer materials on the list, even if they are plastic. And even when some veggies get stuck, the construction makes it easy to remove. This is a very good juicer with solidly built parts, which will make a great addition to any kitchen.

Fagor Slow Juicer

The 150 watt ETL approved Fagor Slow Juicer is the lowest priced item on the list, and is capable of juicing fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, wheatgrass and nuts. The auger in the unit is made from GE Ultem, and is pretty durable considering the brand and very easy to clean. Included accessories are a pulp collector, juice collector, cleaning brush, and recipe booklet. The recipe booklet is quite good, and contains a lot of up to date recipes with ingredients that are easy to find. The warranty is incredibly satisfying, and covers all parts and the motor for 5 years. Contact from customer support is not only quick, but not canned when they respond. Juice yield is pretty good, as the unit attempt to get juice from the ingredients twice in order to maximize the yield. Considering the price it is running, this is a very decent unit.

There is a considerable amount of pulp with the juice, not to the point where it is unbearable, but enough to where it would affect the quality of the juice. The Fagor Slow Juicer finishes its cycles a lot faster than the other juicers on this list, but the extra pulp would be the downside. It also struggles when handling greens, so there will be some caution on that end. This can be considered a budget juicer for all intents and purposes, but it does a fairly good job if paired with a separate metal strainer. For those that don’t want the inconvenience, there are other options, but none in the price range of this unit. If looking for a second unit for smaller tasks, then this will fit the bill quite nicely. Don’t overlook it based on the price, as even with its quirks, it’s very well reviewed.

Tribest SW-2000-B Slowstar Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer

Last on the list is a very powerful Tribest, with a duoblade double-edged Ultem auger. The entire unit runs at 47 RPM with a 200 watt motor, and is one of the more silent units on the list when doing its work. With 3 stage speed reduction gears contents that are emptied into the chute come out fantastic, and cleaning of the BPA-free housing and casing is easy and intuitive. The mincing attachment can be used to make butters, pates, and delicious sorbets. The efficiency of this unit will surprise a lot of users, and the look is also very good for a multitude of kitchens. Tribest makes one of the best augers on the list, which always give high yield juice while getting the most nutrients. For users that want to use it to juice wheatgrass, there may be a little disappointment with how it turns out.

Jamming seems to be a problem with this unit, even when it isn’t overfed. The chute is generous, but there is definitely a disconnect with how well this unit handles ingredients with how fast the chute allows them to be entered. Customer service is not the best with this company, and a lot of buyers who take advantage of the warranty will be frustrated if they need to take advantage of it. When cleaning the unit, the leftover pulp can be very hard to clean, involving a lot of scrubbing to get rid of it all. When trying to figure out what high end unit to get, this is a keeper, but only if you can avoid the customer service. There are some better ones on the list, but possibly not with the desirable features of the Tribest SW-2000-B Slowstar Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer.

Omega J8003 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer

The Omega J8003 Nutrition Center Single-Gear Commercial Masticating Juicer won’t win any design awards, but is still a very good product for the price, which is in the low range. It has a 1/3 HP single-phase induction motor that if it isn’t overloaded, works just as well as products twice its price. At 80 RPMs the low speed dual-stage juicing system prevents foaming, clogging and heat buildup. With the auto pulp-eject function, users can get the highest yield of juice available as the unit works the pulp for the last bit of juice. It’s an amazingly multifunction piece of equipment that works as a juicer, foot processor, pasta extruder, homogenizer, and grinder. In one of the more pleasant surprises, this ships in frustration free packaging, which thankfully avoids the headache of tearing open an unorganized mess.

Although typical of their line of products, the extra small shoot means more prep time for the user. This is the biggest complaint, but it was made that way so that the smallish motor is not overtaxed or burned out. The lack of power in this model may frustrate users if they tend to make larger portions, and even with the promise of bigger juice yields, it is still far behind higher priced juicers. The setup and breakdown of the unit is a breeze, and it is indeed one of the easier units to use when you get it up and running. The price is right, and the unit isn’t half bad for what it does. It is made so that jamming is minimal, and it’s extremely easy to clean. It’s a safe buy for someone looking for a good juicer, and it will last a very long time if used properly and taken care of.

Nutriteam HD-7700 Low Speed Juicer

This small compact juicer from Nutriteam has a 200 watt low speed motor, which if measured by power alone is equivalent to a 9 HP motor. It is ultra-low speed at 47 RPM and uses the double edge Ultem juicing Auger to get the most juice out of the ingredients used. The mincing attachment is a welcome addition and helps to make sauces, sorbets, nut butters and some creams. The efficient auto cleaning system does a great job of removing pulp while juicing, and in some ways is better at that feature than others on the list. The warranty on the motor is a long 10 years, while there is only a 1 year warranty on the included parts. The best way to describe the construction of this juicer is the equivalent of a Ninja or Magic Bullet system, in both its size and efficiency.

There are very few negatives about this unit, other than its small construction is not meant to hold as much as the bigger boys. The unit really does take the claim of the 9 HP equivalent motor, and literally drains everything that goes into it. Users will be satisfied with just how well this juices anything you throw at it, to the point where you’ll have more juice than you know what to do with. Cleanup is easy, but the buildup is quicker due to the size. Jamming might be an issue for the impatient types, but when cared for properly this can easily be the best juicer in the home, even as the main. As one of the smallest on the list, this is definitely one of the better ones. With the great customer service and warranty program, there really is no reason to shortchange this juicer based on size.

Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer B6000S

The high price of the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer B6000S is due to the innovative and patented 3 inch wide feeding tube that can fit entire produce items without prep. This is a revolutionary system that reduces prep and processing time more than 40%. Kuvings has found the perfect speed between fast and slow processing, which enables the best ingredients to get through the final product rather than being destroyed in the juicing process. The result is juice that is all natural, has a distinct aroma and comes out better as a whole than what other juicers offer. If the feeding chute wasn’t a groundbreaking feature, then this is one of the few on the list than can successfully make frozen fruit sorbet with the use of an included BPA free blank strainer. The unit is the perfect size, and is just a little bigger than the last item on the list, and just as heavy duty.

For users that have never owned a Ninja or Magic Bullet, this would be an ideal pickup as it has the ability to do a bulk of the same tasks as those two items. For the price of one, a buyer can really combine two major kitchen appliances, making the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer B6000S one of the most valuable buys on the list. There aren’t many machines on the market that have the capability to throw an entire uncut apple into the chute. There are some minor jamming problems, but many of those complaints can be remedied with general self-care and by reading the manual. This is one of the best juicers on the list, and a real surprise considering the price. I a buyer doesn’t want to blow their bank account on the most expensive juicer on the list, then this is a very comfortable option that will make everyone in the household happy.

2. Juicepresso Cold Press Juicer

This is the first unit on the list from Juicepresso. It claims to provide more than 40% more juice than centrifugal juicers, which by design is actually the truth. It runs at an incredible 40 RPM, so besides being low on noise it really does get the most juice available out of all the ingredients. Thankfully this is also a BPA free design that is dishwasher safe, which should ease in a lot of new buyers. A 7 year warranty on parts and labor is covered well, with fast and responsive technical support. Taking the unit apart is a breeze with the three in one screw, so anytime a user finishes juicing they can easily have it in the dishwasher in minutes.

When it comes to cleanup, there isn’t a juicer on the list that does it as seamlessly as this unit. It is also easy to maintain, and is one of the better reviewed products on the list. There is a lot less pulp to deal with, and if there is any juice left in the pulp the machine does a good job of getting it out. Pulp that is left over on the side is just about as dry as you’d expect it to be. Yield may not be as high as some of the other products on the market, but not due to a defect, but the way the machine was designed. There really aren’t a lot of bad things to say about this particular unit, and it is very well loved in and out of the industry. This is a great buy for a first time user and even the experienced juicer. You really can’t go wrong with this purchase.

6. Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer

As a mid-priced unit the Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer does great at getting the most juice from soft fruits and vegetables. A 240 watt motor is just about as quiet as you can get for the level of work it performs, while the directional control makes sure ingredients can be dislodged using the juicing screw. The easy to get to filter basket is auto purifying for maximum yield, and is made so that it is easy to clean between juicing sessions. The warranty on this product compared to others on the list is relatively short, as a 1 year limited warranty. This might detract some buyers due to trust issues, although the unit is solidly constructed. The shining star of this product is the aforementioned auto purifying feature, allowing a user to simply inset water into the feed chute while it is operating in order to clean it.

One of the pitfalls that bothers this juicer is that there will be some ingredients that you will have to cut finer than others, and it will be a process trying to figure out which ones. The part that may really change minds is still going to be the warranty. With other products on the list offering warranties in excess of 5 years, it’s a little hard to look at this product and get a sense of satisfaction. There are no groundbreaking features, which if this product was put head to head with another, would make justifying the 1 year warranty worthwhile. Previous users of their product will not have a problem with this, but for new users, this could possibly be a long-term headache.

12. Oscar Hurom HU 400 Pro Cold Press Juicer

If you are looking for a juicer with an elegant design, here is another one, the Oscar Hurom HU 400 Pro (You can also check out the Hurom HH-SBB11 review here). This is a single gear juicer that works at 80rpm. Using it is easy and I bet you will be juicing daily once you get it out of the box.

It is advertised as suitable for both domestic and commercial use. Backing this is the 10-year warranty  on motor and 5 years on other parts. Another thing you will like is that this machine is compact. It will likely have enough space in your kitchen even if it is too small. Cleaning is also a breeze, which is very important. The only thing to worry about is the clogging of fibrous ingredients.

The juicer comes in 4 colors: Silver Chrome with black trim; White with matt silver trim; Black with matt silver trim; Burgundy with black trim. Sadly, for some reason, the juicer is meant to be used in Australia and New Zealand only.

Everything You Need To Know About Slow Juicers

If you do not have a lot of money, you are limited in terms of what juicer you can get. At one end, you have the speeding Ferraris called Centrifugal juicers. And on the other, there are the “easy does it best” slow juicers, also known as masticating juicers.

Slow juicers can be horizontal or vertical depending on the model you buy. The vertical design is new and has taken off quite well with consumers as it saves space in the kitchen.

How Do Slow Juicers Work?

Slow juicers come in two forms, single gear or twin gear. The way the gear work is similar in both types of juicers. It rotates at a slow speed of usually 80rpm to 160rpm. As it does this, the food is crushed, thereby breaking the cells and releasing a lot of nutrients and enzymes.

The slow speed is beneficial in a number of ways. Firstly, it does not cause a lot of oxidation. This enables the juice to be stored for up to 3 days. With centrifugal juicers however, you must drink the juice within 15 minutes, otherwise, it degrades.

Since extraction is so slow, the gear is able to open cells and release a high percentage of nutrients and enzymes. Nothing gets damaged as with centrifugal juicers. The juice is tastier, thicker and it is more nutritious.

Additionally, there is less form. The slow speed does not generate a lot of air which ends up being trapped in the juice. And since there isn’t too much friction, the amount of heat produced is again very minimal. Too much heat is notorious for damaging enzymes and nutrients.

Difference With Centrifugal Juicers

These work by throwing food on a rotating disk that has blades. This then cuts the food into finer pieces and because of the rotation, juice is extracted and passing through a small mesh leaving all the pulp in the basket.

Some juicers have auto pulp ejection which then gets rid of the pulp. This is important as too much pulp can reduce the amount of juice you collect.

However, high speed has consequences, much like a speeding car ending in an accident. But you do not get an accident on a juicer. Rather, there is the oxidation we talked about, juice has so much form, there is a lot of heat which results in destroyed nutrients and lastly, pulp comes out wet.

Wet pulp means there is still so much juice left. And it also means there are so many nutrients still siting in the pulp. So in the end, you will have a watery-like juice that tastes like metal.

Put simply, your taste buds will easily tell the difference between juice from a slow juicer and that from a centrifugal juicer.

Advantages of Slow Juicers

For the majority, a slow juicer is the ultimate machine and is also the best juicer for leafy greens. It is the juicer they can ever buy. In regard to this, it is not surprising then that many are now going for these types of juicers. Here are some of the reasons slow juicers are the champions nearly all the time:

The juice is tastier and thicker. Remember I said masticating juicers extract more nutrients and enzymes than centrifugal juicers. Even by just looking, juice from a centrifugal juicer looks watery.
You can store the drink for up to 3 days. So if you want, you can keep your juice to drink tomorrow, in case you will not have time for juicing.
There is more yield. Nobody likes to see wet pulp, it is extremely annoying. Thankfully, slow juicers are good at leaving pulp bone dry.

Disadvantages Of Slow Juicers

There is no perfect juicer out there. You will still find some short comings no matter how hard you search. Here are some negatives for the slow juicers.

  • Slow juicers are a bit slow.
  • Most slow juicers are expensive if compared with centrifugal juicers.
  • For some, the juice is too pulpy, although you can easily use a strainer.

RPM

When rating RPM in a juicer, it is important to remember that lower is better. A lower RPM doesn’t necessarily mean that it will take longer to juice, but that the nutrient value won’t be destroyed in the process of making the juice. Heat, friction and oxidation can lower the nutrients and vitamins in the final product on high RPM units, and in some cases can even affect the taste. When aiming for the best juice from all of the ingredients you put in the juicer, a good juicer will not only separate the pulp from the juice but will recycle those same ingredients over again and make sure that as much juice as possible can be given from the original ingredients. With a low RPM unit a buyer can rest assured that they are getting the highest yield possible with the unit, for the lifetime of the unit.

Pulp

Juicers separate as much pulp as possible from the juice, and a good juicer will allow very little, if any at all in the remaining concoction. For units that get jammed a lot, this is mostly due to the pulp that has accumulated through multiple use, or through a very heavy session. It’s important to clean the unit regularly, not only for health reasons but to maintain the unit. Accumulated pulp is the main reason why the auger in most units gets broken, resulting in a very long conversation with customer service. The better units on the list have a way of making as easy as possible for the buyer to separate the pulp from the main unit, but for the others there is going to be some serious cleaning to do. If a buyer invests in a good juicer, then the pulp problem just about goes away, for the most part.

A good unit will be pulp manageable, BPA-free, and easy to clean. If you’ve purchases a unit that requires constant scrubbing to remove the pulp, then it is only a matter of time before the entire machine fails due to being clogged or due to the motor burning out. Even with the long warranties offered with juicers, one of the most annoying things is having to talk to customer service. By keeping the pulp portion of your juicer under control, you can easily save yourself an eventual future headache.

Summary

The best slow juicer is easy to find, as this list proves. Whether you’re shopping for a family solution or a single cup solution there are a lot of great choices to be made. The buyers that opt for the few on the list that can make sorbets will be pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of the juicer, in not only how quickly it blends the ingredients but how great they taste. Juicers are very much becoming a normal kitchen appliance, and as prices fall they will find their way into more kitchens than ever. With the ability to recycle ingredients and the ease of cleaning, juicers are becoming one of the easiest appliances to own.
